Skincare can be expensive. And when you’re trying to be mindful of which ingredients you put on your body, the affordable options become even more limited. So which products are best when you want clean skin care on a budget? After much deliberation, here is my list of the most amazingly affordable products to add to your skin care routine that are hypoallergenic, free of dyes, fragrances, and parabens, and will not clog pores!
Best Moisturizer: Vanicream Moisturizing Lotion
Why it’s the best: Vanicream’s moisturizing lotion is super light but still leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated. Note that Vanicream moisturizing lotion is good for both face and body, but Vanicream moisturizing cream is much thicker and is too oily to work as a face moisturuzer. The cream version may also be better for winter/dry weather, but this lotion formula is perfect for year-round use. It comes in a large bottle with a pump that makes it easy to dispense into smaller bottles and take on vacation or wherever you may be going!
Best Cleanser: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Why it’s the best: I’m not saying anything new here, but Cetaphil cleanser is the absolute best budget skin cleanser. It is known to work well on all skin types and people of all ages, including those with oily and acne-prone skin.
Best Anti-Aging Serum: La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Why it’s the best: Retinol is often considered the go-to anti-aging ingredient for its ability to lessen dark spots and fine lines. Unfortunately, it has a bad reputation as being an irritant for those with sensitive skin. Products with retinol are also known to be on the expensive side. The alternative? This affordable serum from La Roche-Posay. It uses hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5 to effectively plump the skin and reduce fine lines. I can’t promise that it won’t cause any redness, but it is an effective and gentler option for anti-aging serum.
Best Facial Toner: Quinn’s Alcohol Free Unscented Witch Hazel
Why it’s the best: If you are looking for an ultra-clean toner, then witch hazel is your best option. Many toners contain alcohol and can be harsh on sensitive skin, but Quinn’s is alcohol free and super gentle. Unlike its competitor Thayers Witch Hazel, it does not contain phenoxyethanol, a commonly used preservative that can cause skin irritation and has been linked to eczema. (Note: to avoid skin irritation, start out using only a small amount of this product and work your way up.)
